Remodels

Typical cost in Blaine
Picture a teardown or a gut remodel, where ceiling texture, flooring, wall finishes, insulation and siding can all be disturbed in a single day. Minnesota says asbestos has to be gone before any building, houses included, is renovated or demolished. We clear it first so your crew never has to stop mid-job.
We take on teardown and remodel abatement in all three of our cities, paperwork included.

Plaster, joint compound, glazing and flooring are sampled before walls open.
The abatement crew must be done at least two days before the wrecking crew starts. Any asbestos left behind turns the whole debris pile into asbestos waste.
A teardown of a house with four units or fewer normally goes ahead without MPCA notice. Commercial buildings and buildings holding five or more homes are different, since MPCA expects ten working days’ notice before regulated asbestos work there. A house converted from another use, several houses razed by the same owner, or a job tied to urban renewal, highway or commercial development brings the notice back.
Get two or more bids with written work plans, as MDH recommends.
Blaine’s demolition page lists the asbestos steps in order and applies them to every demolition except in-ground pools, whether or not MPCA’s rule covers the building.
A licensed asbestos inspector surveys the structure before you apply.
Send it to MPCA, then upload the same form with your city application.
Asbestos above the minimum means licensed abatement or a licensed demolition, plus MDH notice.
The permit usually carries one, refunded after final inspection.
