Floor Tile and Mastic Removal in Blaine

Typical cost in Blaine

  • One bathroom or laundry floor, about 50 to 100 sq ft$1,150 – $2,800+
  • One kitchen or large room, about 150 to 300 sq ft$1,700 – $4,800+
  • Several rooms or a basement, about 500 to 1,000 sq ft$3,800 – $11,500+

In a Blaine kitchen or basement, asbestos can sit in any of three layers of an old floor. It may be in the vinyl tile, in sheet flooring or in the black mastic glue underneath, so we sample each one separately. We take up whatever tests positive down to the subfloor, and tiles that release come up in whole pieces.

Since July 2021, flooring in buildings of up to four units has no exemption.

Floors we remove

Vinyl floor tile

No sanding, grinding or chipping. Those methods make the tile regulated asbestos work, so a licensed crew removes it.

Mastic

The glue gets its own sample and can test differently from the tile.

Sheet flooring

MPCA calls linoleum’s paper backing friable in most cases. It comes up wet.

Covering it instead

MDH allows intact flooring to be covered. Damaged flooring can release fibers.

Getting the floor ready

A little planning shortens the job.

Clear the floor

Empty the room down to bare floor before we arrive.

Carpet over old tile

Pull back a corner so the tile and glue can be sampled.

What the subfloor shows

We flag soft or water-stained spots for your flooring installer.
